Minor Setbacks

Hmmm....

On the drive out to the boat I started hearing a new squeak from under my mobile workshop. Turns out the parts that connect the frame to the rear axle had completely broken off on one side and nearly broken through on the other. New parts on order but it will probably be a week with the upcoming holiday and all.

All part of the process. Life is what happens when you are making other plans.

Stay tuned for another update in about a week. :-(

Who sold you that piece of crap anyway? (The mobile "workshop", that is) I sure hope it didn't cost more than $500. :<)

Thank goodness for lemon laws. I need to sit down and fill out my warranty claim today :-)

OK, you musthave that truck fixed by now.

You obviously don't care about your readers. If you did, you'd get work done just so you could post an update and keep the whiners at bay.

Nope. The truck was finished just this evening and I will pick it up tomorrow morning. Last week's holiday slowed up the parts delivery. I couldn't fix the truck myself because I don't have the welding equipment I would have needed.

Tomorrow looks promising although I have to drive around a sick relative to help her get some things done so I really don't know how tomorrow will go, sadly.

I can only hope.

Though he didn't say, Britton hasn't been idle. Check out his "Small Boat Blog" - http://brittonsdoryshop.blogspot.com

Oh, you've been holding out on us, Britton! Good thing Mike's here to let me know about your new venture.

Look forward to watching the new dory shop.

Its only for when the Triton project is held up so don't hold your breath waiting for new updates. Next year, when the Triton is on the mooring, I might spend some more time developing my 'Dory Shop' :-)

Now I know why you suddenly suggested that I build a shellback... Sadly, while Heather has forbid me from building a boat, she has developed extreme prejudice against it.

FK or similar it shall be I guess...

Or, how much for a Britton Dory? ;-)

brushfiremedia said...

Edit: that is, "Heather has not forbid me"...

For you? I great 'special friend' price!

I just don't think I can stand the critism I would have to take if I were to spend the time building one. The small boat stuff is more of a long term concept that I am laying the groundwork for. Not that I intend to support myself by it or anything. I just need an excuse to build more and try new designs. I don't need more boats. I want more boats :-)

and BTW, I couldn't build and sell a new shellback for any less than a new FK either. To make money I would probably have to sell it for considerably more. There is no money in boatbuilding. Its just for fun.

Today, the truck is home, which is the good news. The bad news is that I got hit with a bill for over $700. There goes my economic incentive check. I guess the paint is going on credit...

brushfiremedia said...

Yeah, boats.... Nope, I suspect a fk it is.

"There goes my economic incentive check." You still had that?? Impressive.

BTW, what's "FK" and "NPKC"? Sorry, I'm acronym challenged...

Britton said...

FK = Fatty Knees dinghy
NPKC = an informal group that gets together to sail occasionally.

I still have the incentive check because I haven't received it yet. I got a note yesterday saying I would have it in the next week or two. Easy come, easy go.

Its my tax money that I gave earlier and will have to pay back again later. Odd concept really. The US economy is so screwed and it doesn't even know it yet. But that is outside the scope of this blog. Think happy thoughts. Think boats.

Have to pay back again later WITH interest to another country who is funding our "incentive"... Beyond nuts.

Back on to happy thoughts: (F)atty (K)nees. Got it. But "NPKC = an informal group that gets together to sail occasionally"? That doesn't quite add up. That would be AIGTGTTSO, wouldn't it? :)

Now if you'll excuse me, I really should get back to work, right after I check on Bolero's progress...

Ariel Mike wrote, "But "NPKC = an informal group that gets together to sail occasionally"? That doesn't quite add up. That would be AIGTGTTSO, wouldn't it? :)"

Actually, NPKC is a phonetic representation of a traditional Kalahari Bushman tribal phrase that loosely translates as "an informal group who occasionally sails together".

Since the Bushman language is non-written, we had to take a few liberties with the abbreviation.

It's easy to see why you're confused.
